Story Box Library June Update

BY JAMES BENNETT

Watch online events for Public Libraries, which provide learning towards LIANZA professional registration and the ALIA PD Scheme.

Find engaging and fun winter warmer stories and activities, to support library patrons through the unpredictable months ahead.

This month’s releases feature CBCA Book of the Year shortlisted titles, featuring dynamic storytellers in unique locations.

Story Box Library is releasing dedicated CBCA Book Week activities, due for public release Monday 18 July. Downloadable and printable packs encourage deeper text engagement, via activity tasks that can be done in a library or remotely, for lower, middle and upper primary age children.

With a diverse digital library and downloadable activities, parents and carers can join Story Box Library’s Reading Challenge for NAIDOC Week, helping kids learn more about Australia’s shared history and achievements.

Discover our first four CBCA shortlisted stories:

  • Ocean, sky, snow and ice - minute greens and giant blues - dance a delicate dance in this evocative portrayal of the life cycle of an iceberg. Iceberg is a stunning, lyrical story for our times, from renowned creators Claire Saxby and Jess Racklyeft. Read by Angourie Rice.
  • Heroes, Rebels and Innovators: Inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from history tells compelling stories that every Australian should know featuring incredible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander icons. Written by Karen Wyld, illustrated by Jaelyn Biumaiwai and read by Tamala Shelton.
  • Writer Andrea Rowe and illustrator Hannah Sommerville perfectly capture the challenges of childhood – and the joy of letting go – in Jetty Jumping, a homage to summer. Read by Angourie Rice.
  • When all the whales in the ocean leave their home to walk around on land, people don’t quite know what to think…until a smart little girl decides to ask the whales what everyone can do to help. Walk of the Whales is created by Nick Bland and read by Tamala Shelton.

For libraries authenticating via SIP2, now is a good time to re-confirm that the required IPs are whitelisted with your LMS. Contact libraries@storyboxlibrary.com.au for further assistance.
